Set up a Bitaxe, step by step

• The Bitaxe and its 5 V power supply: use the one meant for your model.
• A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network: the Bitaxe cannot see 5 GHz.
• A Bitcoin address from a wallet you hold the keys to.
• A phone or a computer for the setup.

1. Plug in the Bitaxe. The screen lights up. On first start it creates its own Wi-Fi network, whose name starts with “Bitaxe”.
2. Join that network from your phone or computer. The setup page opens by itself; if not, type 192.168.4.1 in the browser.
3. Give it your Wi-Fi. Pick your 2.4 GHz network, enter its password and save. The Bitaxe restarts and shows the IP address it received on its screen.
4. Open AxeOS. Back on your usual Wi-Fi, type that IP address in the browser: this is the Bitaxe dashboard.
5. Set the pool in Settings with the values below, then save and restart.
6. Check. After a minute or two, the hashrate shows in AxeOS. On findmyblock.xyz, search for your address: your machine appears.

The user is your Bitcoin address, a dot, then a name for the machine. Labels vary slightly between AxeOS versions, but these four fields are always there.

• Keep the factory settings at first. Raising frequency or voltage gains a little hashrate but runs hotter and wears the chip.
• Let it breathe. Clear fan, no closed case. The heatsink is hot to the touch: that is normal.
• Update it from AxeOS when a new version comes out.
• Give each machine a different name (bitaxe1, bitaxe2…) to tell them apart on the pool.
